Multimedia - Assessment 2: Campaign Poster for IC

Here are links that will give you tips in creating your poster:

Suggestions for Preparing an Effective Poster Presentation
(Compiled from a variety of sources)
  •  Get your message across with effective visual displays of data and small blocks of supporting text. Think of your poster as an illustrated abstract.
  • Overall appearance. Use a pleasing arrangement of graphics, text, and colors. Your poster should be neat and uncluttered. Use white space to help organize sections rather than trying to fill every inch. Balance the placement of text and figures.
  • Organization. Use headings to help readers find what they’re looking for: objectives, results, conclusions, etc. A columnar format helps traffic flow in a crowded poster session.
  • Minimize text – use graphics. Keep text in blocks of no more than 50-75 words – don’t create large, monolithic paragraphs of prose. Use simple, easy to read, relevant graphics. Avoid using clip art.
  • Text size. All text should be large enough to read from 1-2 meters, including the text in figures (typically 18 point font, minimum). Title should be larger, to attract attention from far away. Do not use all UPPER CASE type anywhere in your poster.
  • Limit yourself to 2 font types. Too many font types distracts, especially when they appear in the same sentence. Fonts that are easy on the eyes are Times-Roman and Arial.
  • Use color cautiously. Dark letters on light background are easiest to read. Stick to a theme of 2-3 colors. Avoid overly bright colors–they attract attention but wear out reader’s eyes. Use color only to emphasize, differentiate and to add interest. Do not use color just to impress!
  • Go with reader gravity. Readers naturally track from top to bottom (first), and left to right.
  • Include full contact information. You want to be found – the reader should not have to do any follow up research or searching to find you.
---------------------------------------------------------------

I will use the Judging Criteria below to evaluate your poster:

First Impression:

  •  How difficult is it to read the poster?
  •  How are color schemes used, are they easy on the eye?
  •  How crowded is the poster?
  •  Is there a good flow of information (logical, layout of information)?
  •  Does the poster stimulate interest and discussion?

Layout:

  • Is the poster visually jumbled?
  • How easy is it to follow the sequence in the poster?

Readability:

  •  Is font size or style easily readable?
  •  How much text does the poster contain?
  •  Are there many grammar or spelling mistakes?

Title:

  • How specific/adequate/long/short is the title?

Identification:

  • Can the author(s) be easily identified?
  • Is contact information available (ie. Department/ University)

Aims/ Objectives:

  •  Are they clearly stated?

Keep posted for more instructions as to the poster.

Multimedia - Peer Assessment Form

To be able to grade individual members in the group fairly, each of you will be required to download and fill up the peer assessment form below and email it to me at maui_m@yahoo.com as soon as your group has finished the presentation.  Indicate your name in your email.

There will be corresponding deductions to those who will not comply this.

Multimedia - Post-Graphics Design Conference

  • What were the things that impressed you, inspired you and motivated you to pursue design?
  • Do you think you have what it takes to be a designer?

I will post more tutorials soon for you to follow.

Multimedia (CS/IT) - Presentation Rubric

To be able to grade you objectively I will use the rubric below:

Summary of criteria:
  • topic presentation (50 points)
  • demonstration (30 points)
  • teamwork (20 points)

I will randomly pick two members each from the other groups to rate you as well.  50% of the rating will come from me, and the remaining half from the rating of your classmates.

Take note that you will be graded as a team.  The presenters' ratings for the topic presentation will be averaged to get the overall rating.

All members of each group must be present every meeting.  Number of absentees per meeting multiplied by two will be subtracted from your presentation score. Here is a sample computation:

Overall rating (topic, demonstration, teamwork) = 90 points
Number of absentees in class in a single meeting = 4 (x 2) = 8 points

Final Rating = 90 - 8 = 82 / 100

================================================

Someone asked me about the Power of Sound, here is it:

When something vibrates in the air is moving back and forth it creates wave of pressure. These waves spread like ripples from pebble tossed into a still pool and when it reaches the eardrums, the change of pressure or vibration is experienced as sound.

Acoustics is the branch of physics that studies sound. Sound pressure levels are measured in decibels (db); a decibel measurement is actually the ratio between a chosen reference point on a logarithmic scale and the level that is actually experienced.
